WATSONVILLE — Driscoll’s, a Watsonville-based global berry distributor, has launched an emergency effort to help a small agricultural region in Baja California that was besieged with floods during the recent rains and faces additional storms in the week ahead.
The company, which has operated in Baja for about 20 years, has a distribution center as well as research and development facilities in the regions of San Quintin and the Vizcaino desert. While the rain was drenching most of California, the small agricultural communities in Baja received almost a year’s worth of rain in a week, resulting in widespread flood damage, said Tim Youmans, vice president of sales at Driscoll’s Strawberry Associates. The storms wreaked havoc on fields, homes and infrastructure in the area. (MORE)
