Local groups answer Obama’s ‘call to service’

Difficult economic times may be here, but President-elect Barack Obama’s national call to service has inspired hundreds of people to sign up to volunteer time and donate goods and money this week at 26 events set up throughout the Monterey Bay Area.

In Santa Cruz style, there are beach cleanup days, a composting party at the Homeless Garden Project in Santa Cruz, a vegetation restoration project at Natural Bridges and a fundraiser for Hurricane Katrina victims at the Veterans Memorial Building. (MORE)
